Third party apps creates problem for high refresh rate on iPhone 13 Pros

Apple’s iPhone 13 lineup was available to public on Friday, and one of the key features to buy the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max is their ProMotion displays with variable refresh rates that can top out at 120Hz. But spotted by 9to5Google, some app animations in third pary app like instagram, twitter etc are stuck at 60hz.

That might be very annoying if you were expecting to see buttery-smooth 120hz animations across all of your apps with the new phones.

In an reply given to The Verge, Apple shared two reasons why this might be happening, One reason is that developers will need to update their apps to declare that they use the higher refresh rate. This can be done by adding an entry to the app’s plist, Apple also tells The Verge, that it plans to share documentation about the entry you need to add soon.  And the another reason given by the company was that  in some cases, animations built with the company’s Core Animation technology are also affected by an issue that will be fixed in an upcoming software update, Apple says.

120hz refresh rates the smoothest displays currently, it offers a better screen performance that means extremely smooth animations and very fast scrolling unlike regular 60hz juglish jitter screen. Whereas Apple has implemented the variable refresh rate screen that means it won't be stuck at 120hz all the time, it'll switch between 60-120hz depending upon how you use and what you're consuming, if it feels the content you're consuming or app you're using requires 120hz it locks in.
