The Backlash Against MKBHD: Unpacking the Criticism Surrounding Recent Tech Reviews

In relation to technology reviewing, Marques Brownlee who is famously known as MKBHD has been a pillar for more than ten years now. Consequently, he has a large following and admiration from many people due to the depth of knowledge he displays in his analysis and top quality production values. Nevertheless, there have been serious criticisms towards several of his recent reviews especially Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra Review that can be found on social media such as X (formerly Twitter), some of you even feel this content is not too much biased. The purpose of this post is to explore the reasons behind this backlash and analyze both sides.

One major concern is that MKBHD’s reviews are increasingly seen as biased by his close ties with big tech firms. Critics believe that this has resulted in less critical ratings particularly for brands like Samsung and Apple. Notably, the review of Galaxy Watch Ultra was accused of being extremely negative while others called it "Poorly researched".

Let's delve into the reasons behind this backlash and explore both sides of the argument.

One of the primary concerns is that MKBHD's reviews have become increasingly influenced by his relationships with tech giants. Critics argue that this has led to more lenient evaluations, particularly for brands like Samsung and Apple. The Galaxy Watch Ultra review, in particular, was seen as overly negative, with some accusing Brownlee of glossing over Apple's watch ultra. Detractors feel that this compromises the integrity of his content.

Another point of contention is the perceived lack of diversity in MKBHD's review lineup. Some argue that he focuses too much on premium devices, neglecting more affordable options that cater to a broader audience. This has led to accusations of elitism and a disconnect from the needs of everyday consumers. Whereas I also feel that when you run a huge channel you gotta filter out the type of products you'd review and showcase, cause tech industry keep innovating and new products are launched every other day so it's not that you can review all the products in the world.

However, it's essential to consider the context and Brownlee's intentions. MKBHD has consistently pushed the boundaries of tech review content, introducing innovative formats and production values that elevate the genre. His collaborations with major brands might be seen as a natural progression, allowing him to access exclusive information and provide more comprehensive insights.

Moreover, Brownlee's audience has evolved alongside him. His content now caters to a more specialized demographic, interested in high-end technology and in-depth analysis. While this might not resonate with everyone, it's unfair to expect him to cater to all segments of the market.

In my honest personal opinion I didn't find the review to be overtly negative or biased, Brownlee definitely highlights both the device's strengths and weaknesses, providing a nuanced evaluation that aligns with his signature style.

A user on X posting in support of Brownlee,

He says "So people are mad at MKBHD's new video which is clearly factual, he stated that Apple copies Samsung and Samsung copies Apple too, it's just that this time Samsung went too far.

A tech reviewer should always be free to express his own honest opinion on a product without controversy".

In conclusion, the criticism surrounding MKBHD's recent reviews, including the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra assessment, stems from God knows where, yes we all are biased towards the things we love but as reviewer we shouldn't be biased, and we all have our share of favouritism and there's no harm in being so either. In no way I'm saying that it's right or he being biased is fair, but there should be a balanced of good and bad, and in no way I found this particular video to be that negative as people touted it to be, however Brownlee's commitment to quality and innovation remains unwavering. As the tech landscape continues to shift,

On the side note, earlier Brownlee was caught with another controversy for allegedly bankrupting a car company 'Fisker Motors' after him reviewing the car and said that it's the worse car he ever reviewed.
